Accessibility Statement

Our Commitment
Rooted Connections CIC is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people of all abilities. We believe that everyone should have equal access to information about our community garden project and the opportunity to get involved, regardless of disability or impairment.
As an organisation dedicated to creating an inclusive, dementia-friendly space in the physical world, we strive to extend that same welcoming approach to our digital presence.
Accessibility Standards
We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible for people with disabilities and more user-friendly for everyone.
The guidelines have three levels of accessibility (A, AA, and AAA). We have chosen Level AA as our target as it addresses the most common barriers for disabled users.
What We're Doing
We have taken the following steps to ensure our website is accessible:
- Keyboard navigation: All interactive elements can be accessed using a keyboard alone
- Skip to content: A skip link is provided to bypass repetitive navigation
- Clear headings: Content is organised with proper heading hierarchy for screen reader users
- Alt text: Images include descriptive alternative text
- Colour contrast: Text and interactive elements meet minimum contrast requirements
- Form labels: All form fields have clear, associated labels
- Focus indicators: Visible focus states help keyboard users track their position
- Responsive design: The website works on different screen sizes and zoom levels
- Readable fonts: We use clear, legible typefaces at appropriate sizes
- ARIA labels: Screen reader users receive additional context where needed
Known Limitations
While we strive to make all content accessible, some areas may have limitations:
- Third-party content: Some embedded content (such as donation widgets or maps) is provided by third parties and may not fully meet accessibility standards
- PDF documents: Older PDF documents may not be fully accessible. Please contact us if you need information in an alternative format
- Video content: Some video content may not have captions or audio descriptions. We are working to improve this
Browser and Assistive Technology Compatibility
This website is designed to be compatible with:
- Recent versions of popular browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge)
- Screen readers including NVDA, JAWS, and VoiceOver
- Screen magnification software
